Position Summary/Description:

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as virtual. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.

The Research & Grants Manager position provides cradle to grave support for the extramural funding in the Medicine Administration Finance Service Center. This position is the primary point of contact for all research related matters within the department. Key components include pre-award services, grant management, reporting/close out and oversight of the department’s growing research and grants program .Pre-Award:* Assess funding opportunities and utilize guidelines to assist PIs and project personnel with the application.* Advise and direct principal investigators in the creation of a project budget with respect to budgetary guidelines set forth by the sponsor and university.* Facilitate submission by providing assistance with the application compilation. This is not limited to collection and formatting of supporting documents, utilizing sponsor portals or packages to create a final document, transposing budget onto sponsor forms and problem solving for complicated personnel matters.* Submit proposals for authorization using RAMSeS and/or CAYUSE and work with the Office of Sponsored Research ( OSR ) and/or the Sponsored Programs Office ( SPO ) to complete the application review and submission to the sponsor prior to the deadline. Grants Management:* Serve as a liaison between DFM Faculty and Leadership, other university departments, Universities Offices ( OSP , SPO , Corporate and Foundation relations, IRB , etc) and funding agencies.* Regular communication with the accounting group to assist with effort allocation, reporting, and grant compliance* Ensure that all progress reports are prepared and completed in accordance with the funding agency’s reporting guidelines.Complete and maintain other support documents according to sponsor guidelines. General Responsibilities: Utilize the University’s financial records systems (ConnectCarolina, Infoporte, and RAMSeS) to provide information as needed.* Provide Manager of Financial Services with funding information for use in creating the School of Medicine and Departments annual budgets.* Provide clear, timely, and accurate notification to the appropriate stakeholders on institutional and external changes in funding guidelines and sources.* Collaborate with the department’s Manager of Financial Services and the Human Resources Assistant on personnel funding changes with source funding details.* Develop and maintain data storage systems for each grant project and anticipate future needs based on the addition of new research faculty, new funding awards, or changes within the Department.

Education and Experience:

Experience with grants and contracts. Thorough knowledge of government accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices. Experience in a university and/or medical setting is preferred. Certified Research Administrator ( CRA ) certification preferred. Knowledge of NIH , NSF , DOD , and other awarding agency regulations and requirements.

Essential Skills:

Ability to monitor and manage financial accounts for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and laws. Ability to manage reporting of complex financial areas or programs, including preparation of financial statements and reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Excellent organizational skills..
