Position Summary/Description:

The Division of Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a variable track Assistant Professor with expertise in Critical Care Medicine and Geriatrics, and with an interest in clinical and translational research. Duties include, but are not limited to, attending in the Medical ICU at UNC Medical Center and Hillsborough Hospital and seeing geriatric patients in the ambulatory care clinic who have pulmonary diseases or are recovering from critical illness. They will teach medical students, medical residents, and pulmonary and critical fellows in these settings. They will be expected to conduct clinical and translational research focused on the elderly acutely ill patient and seek funding through the NIH and other sources to support that work. The candidate should have experience conducting clinical investigation and a track record of publication in the medical literature.

The selected candidate will report directly to the Division Chief and must work effectively in a close teamwork setting and be flexible, solutions-oriented, and intellectually curious. He/she must maintain a commitment to continue to learn and train others in the field of pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine in terms of clinical advancements, research, and education.

Education and Experience:

A master’s degree in clinical research or public health is preferred in addition to the required MD or DO degree. Experience in designing and conduction clinical research, data management and analysis is preferred.
