United States Fleet Forces Command PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in Naval Shipyard, Virginia

Responsibilities You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIATION HEALTH DIVISION 1055, RADIOLOGY CONTROL OFFICE (105), DEP, RAD CONT NNSY WATERFRONT 1051W, NORFOLK, VA. You will serve as a Radiation Health Technician in a wide range of radiation health operations. You will serve as the representative of the Radiation Health Div during the initial phase of recovery operations involving the release of radioactivity to the environment and exposure of personnel to radiation in excess of established limits. You will take charge in aspects of radiation related emergencies. You will perform detailed radiation surveys of radiographic sites, Radiac repair facility and the areas surrounding nuclear facilities. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-06: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience performing a wide range of radiation health practices and requirements together with the knowledge of various processes of several trades sufficient to monitor and control operations such as utilization of licensed sources, personnel dosimetry, environmental surveillance, and operation of state-of-the-art microprocessor based radioactivity analysis equipment. Experience applying principles, theories, techniques, and methodologies for the surveillance of industrial radiological work processes, control of radioactive material, and control of radiation exposure and radioactive contamination. Experience performing the proper technical application of radiological principles, techniques, and methodologies of surveillance necessary to control deviations from proper work processes and procedures. Experience in potential radiological control casualty situations and performing the appropriate corrective or mitigating action. GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience perming a wide range of radiation health practices and requirements together with the knowledge of various processes of several trades sufficient to monitor and control operations such as utilization of licensed sources, personnel dosimetry, environmental surveillance, and operation of state-of-the-art microprocessor based radioactivity analysis equipment. Experience applying principles, theories, techniques, and methodologies for the surveillance of industrial radiological work processes, control of radioactive material, and control of radiation exposure and radioactive contamination. Experience preforming proper technical application of radiological principles, techniques, and methodologies of surveillance necessary to control deviations from proper work processes and procedures. Education SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
