United States Fleet Forces Command ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in Naval Shipyard, Virginia

Summary You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Technical Support Branch (Code 135.1), Nondestructive Test Division (Code 135), of the Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will investigate and resolve problems identified by inspectors performing production inspections; and assist or perform complex production inspections. You will provide technical guidance and support to other NDT examiners and other Shipyard personnel, NAVSEA, and contractors, in the use and application of nuclear and nonnuclear NDT procedures. You will investigate nuclear and non-nuclear NDT applications for new/changed test requirements and design of new/changed NDT procedures and methods You will review and evaluate new test NDT equipment for Shipyard application; determines need, planning, and development of nuclear and non-nuclear Shipyard instructions. You will represent the Shipyard for all matters related to nuclear and non-nuclear NDT projects in categories such as eddy current, ultrasonic, radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual. You will be responsible for the correct interpretation, procedure development and approval of nuclear and non-nuclear non-destructive test procedures and training required by NAVSEA directive. You will be responsible for initial, re-qualification, and refresher training of inspector personnel. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience being recognized specialist with extensive training in nondestructive testing and general knowledge of allied manufacturing processes, e.g., welding, forging, casting, etc. Experience with all phases of inspection techniques used in non-destructive testing. Experience understanding the theory and operating principles of all the NDT methods and how they interface these methods in the solving of Shipyard fabrication problems. Experience solving complex problems involving use of nuclear and non-nuclear non-destructive test methods. Experience interpreting specifications, to review the work of other personnel to establish proper performance, to prepare technical documents, and to guide technical groups and task teams Experience possessing a general knowledge of welding and its allied processes, foundry practices, and general shipbuilding procedures. Experience being certified as a Non-destructive Test Inspector in ultrasonic testing and/or radiographic testing and/or eddy current inspection and in one or more of the following inspection methods: Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, or Visual.
