Naval Supply Systems Command PACKER in Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington

Summary You will serve as a Packer in the Aviation Logistics Department of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PUGET SOUND. Responsibilities You will be responsible for all plant, installation, and aviation squadron packing, crating, and shipping of assets stored at NAS Whidbey Island. You will select containers, protective devices, cushioning, methods and techniques needed for packing while taking note of factors such as size, type, weight, fragility and mode of shipment. You will prepare and process all documents including special handling labels, shipping codes and required safety data. You will prepare and pack all hazardous items in accordance with Department of Transportation Regulations and compile with Hazardous Packing and Shipping Manual to properly pack, mark, label and certify hazardous material. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including packing work for material and items that require special documentation and custom packing; selecting containers, protective devices, cushioning, methods and techniques needed for packing while taking note of factors such as size, type, weight, fragility and mode of shipment; utilizing stencil machines to generate stencils for marking specific items, pallet wrapping machines for securing of palletized loads, scales for recording the proper shipping weights of material, and preparing and applying labels to packages; and utilizing propane, electric, gasoline or diesel powered forklifts to move, lift, unload and relocate material/equipment being packed. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
