*Job Summary *
The incumbent supports user desktop infrastructure and application needs. He/she performs
activities involving desktop hardware, software, and other peripheral devices.
*Knowledge Skills and Abilities *
Knowledge of desktop operations, practices, procedures and techniques
Knowledge of multi-programming computer operating techniques
Knowledge of job control language and utilities.
Knowledge of Mac computers.
Knowledge of computer peripheral equipment operations.
Good communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal
Ability to communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical individuals
Ability to operate a multi-programming digital electronic computer.
Ability to train a small technical staff.
Ability to plan, schedule, direct, oversee, and evaluate the work of a small technical staff.
Ability to acquire knowledge of applications run during the assigned shift.
Essential Job Functions
Trouble shoots issues concerning all desktop work order requests to ensure the attainment of established unit goals.
Develops and maintains desktop operations, priorities, and equipment in order to maximize operational effectiveness.
Maintains inventory control records and directs acquisition and distribution of computer supplies in order to ensure availability of required materials.
Recommends improved service routines and production techniques in order to increase operational efficiency.
Operates and controls computer equipment and auxiliary devices in order to provide scheduled services
Evaluates security requirements, rules, and procedures in order to protect facility and recommend security improvements as necessary
Confers and coordinates with operations sections university wide, individual users, and vendors in order to acquire and provide required services
Schedules mandatory maintenance on equipment in order to ensure equipment is in good working order and minimize downtime
*Qualifications *
Four (4) years of operating experience in multi-processing, multi-programming, and multi-systems computer operations.
