Vanderbilt University Supply Delivery Technician in Nashville, Tennessee

Position Summary:

The Supply Delivery Technician is part of the Maintenance Operations group at Vanderbilt University. (VUMO) The Supply Delivery Technician is a key individual contributor responsible for the safe and timely delivery of tools and material to operating departments throughout the Vanderbilt University campus.

About the Work Unit:

Facilities provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of university space

and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.

Facilities annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. It manages major capital project expenditures totaling $125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement, and large maintenance project expenditures totaling $20 million annually. The Facilities Business Operations Center provides support to the entire department, specifically regarding the areas of Finance, Employee Relations, Systems, Contracts and General Administration.

Key Functions and Expected Performance: The Storeroom department goal will be to have inventory available to sustain MRO operations at the lowest cost possible. The primary function of the Material Expeditor will be to deliver material, tools and equipment to various departments and operating units. The Material Expeditor will always conduct themselves in a professional manner, keeping in mind that the mission is to provide excellent customer service to all operating departments in VUMO.

The Supply Delivery Technician will:

  • Deliver material, tools, equipment and correspondence to various departments and operating units throughout Vanderbilt University, multiple times each day.

  • Ensure orders are correctly labeled, delivered, and secured in the correct storage area for each customer.

  • Assist with receiving inventory and storing items in their designated storage bins and staging areas.

  • Pick up material orders from local vendors and deliver them to the Chestnut Warehouse in a timely manner.

  • Assist with miscellaneous housekeeping and inventory maintenance as well any other duties assigned.

  • Sort incoming mail at the Chestnut Warehouse, deliver mail to, and retrieve mail from the VUMO mailroom in the Baker building.

  • Track and execute preventative maintenance and repairs for the Storeroom delivery van.

  • Conduct daily security sweep of the Storeroom and Receiving Docks and Surplus Receiving area at end of each day.

  • Assist with annual Physical Inventory and monthly cycle counts.

  • The Supply Delivery Technician will assist the Material Coordinators and learn as much as possible about the Material Coordinator position. The expectation being that the Expediter is always training to backup and support the Material Coordinators.

    Supervisory Relationships:

    This position does not have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the VUMO-Stores Manager.

    Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma is required.

  • Other post-secondary or skilled trades education is preferred.

  • Valid Driver License is required.

  • Valid Forklift License is required.

    Experience and Skills:

  • 2 years of related experience is required.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment is required.

  • Demonstrated effective communication and teamwork skills are required .

  • Demonstrated organized approach to work task details is required.

  • Demonstrated skills utilizing Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office apps, and Oracle-based database systems required.

  • Previous Facilities Maintenance work experience is preferred.
