  • Medical Lab Assistant

  • PRN Night shift

  • 6+ months of healthcare experience, specimen testing/prcessiong, basic medical terminology.

What You Will Do

Perform specimen processing and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory.

  • Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.

  • Keep work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.

  • Fulfill clerical duties which may include but are not limited to answering phones, data entry, and filing.

  • Process specimens and perform record keeping duties as required by department.

  • Maintain equipment and perform materials management duties such as keeping supply inventories at optimum levels and transporting specimens, equipment and supplies.

  • Label, document collection and send or deliver specimens to the laboratory.

  • Collect blood specimens from patients following approved standardization procedures and performs EKG screenings as ordered by physician; provide clerical support to the laboratory and communicate with internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of sterile techniques, knowledge and skill of transferring patients and accuracy in obtaining and delivering specimens.

  • Interact with patients of all age groups in performance of duties; communicate proper collections, collection delays, inability to collect specimens and clinically significant information.

  • Perform pulmonary function tests as ordered by physician.

  • Perform 12 lead EKG and treadmill tests on patients as ordered by physician and is able to identify and correct poor quality EKG tracings.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred.

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
