Vanderbilt University Manager, Laboratory, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics in Nashville, Tennessee

We are seeking a highly motivated, talented and organized individual to join our interactive team as a Laboratory Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and operation of our research laboratory, ensuring a productive and compliant environment for scientific research. This role involves overseeing daily lab activities, managing resources, and supporting the research team in achieving their scientific objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lab Operations Management:

· Oversee daily operations of the research lab, including equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, and managing inventory

· Ensure lab compliance with safety regulations and institutional policies

· Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab activities

  1. Resource Management:

· Manage the laboratory budget and expenditures

· Coordinate the procurement of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment

· Maintain accurate records of purchases and usage of lab resources

  1. Team Support:

· Assist researchers with experimental setup, troubleshooting, and optimization

· Provide training to new lab members on proper lab techniques and safety protocols

· Foster a collaborative and productive lab environment

  1. Data Management:

· Oversee the maintenance of accurate and organized lab records, including experimental data, protocols, and equipment logs

· Ensure data integrity and compliance with data management policies

  1. Compliance and Safety:

· Conduct regular safety inspections and audits

· Implement and monitor lab safety training programs for all lab personnel

· Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations regarding laboratory safety and hazardous materials

  1. Communication and Coordination:

· Serve as a liaison between the lab and other departments, vendors, and external collaborators

· Coordinate and facilitate lab meetings and discussions as needed

· Prepare and present reports on lab activities and progress to the PI

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry) required; advanced degree preferred

· Minimum of 2 years of experience in a research laboratory setting, with at least 1 year in a managerial or supervisory role

· Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols

· Excellent organizational and multitasking skills

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Proficiency in using laboratory management software and tools

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with grant writing and management

· Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in lab management

· Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
