Job Summary and Qualifications

Role Overview: At HCA Healthcare, we are committed to providing our patients and care providers with the highest quality of healthcare services. The Lead Data Scientist plays a critical role in helping us achieve this goal by architecting and implementing a broad range of data science solutions to improve patient outcomes. This is a data science practitioner role with a solid academic and engineering background. He/she will maintain a balance between building principled, mathematically rigorous solutions, and launching them through agile product development. He/She will be one of the resident experts on Natural Language Processing (NLP), Speech Recognition, Large Language Models (LLMs), and related cognitive and generative AI disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help leading the research, strategy, design, roadmap and implementation of NLP products from incubation to deployment

  • Able to be hands-on on and implement the latest state-of-the-art techniques in the space (from white papers and other research sources) in a robust way, enabling a path to applying research in production

  • Lead various design and code review activities, ensuring code is abiding to internal engineering standards and Responsible AI framework

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate NLP technologies into our product offerings.

  • Mentor junior data scientists, fostering an inclusive team environment that encourages growth and innovation.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in NLP and AI, applying this knowledge to our projects.

  • Communicate complex technical details and project progress to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Computer Science, Linguistics, or a related field, with a focus on Natural Language Processing.

  • 7+ years of experience and proven track record of leading and deploying large-scale production NLP projects, with tangible outcomes and innovations.

  • Skilled in Python Object Oriented Programming and SQL

  • Experience building Python APIs and familiarity with API frameworks including Flask.

  • Familiarity with NLP libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TF, SKLearn, NLTK, SpaCy, Transformers, HuggingFace, LangChain).

  • Experience working with NLP techniques such as topic modeling, named entity recognition, information retrieval.

  • Experience with Large Language Models and prompting techniques such as zero-shot, few-shot, chain of thought.

  • Working experience with Cloud Computing environments ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Basic familiarity with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) for Cloud Computing

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire a team.
