Position Description

This Civil Service position is located in the Parks and Recreatio n Department. The Finance Officer Sr. performs professional and analytical financial duties of a specialized nature requiring professional knowledge, skills, and abilities that pertain to the field of finance and administration in support of the Parks and Recreation department. Also performs various accounting and clerical related duties.

Will also be responsible for oversight of the accounting staff in their performance of various accounting and clerical duties.

Typical Duties

• Organize and supervise central accounting staff of the Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation Department.

• Interpret and advise Park employees on proper accounting procedures.

• Review transactions to ensure proper accounting procedures have been followed.

• Process special fund transactions and reconcile fund balances.

• Oversee and participate in the preparation of various financial reports.

• Coordinate procurement card system and audit/reconcile transactions.

• Provide data for internal and external audits.

• Recommend and implement procedures and systems.

• Communicate with various Metro departments on accounting issues.

• Maintain financial records/files.

• Perform any special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field and three (3) years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

Additional experience may be considered in lieu of some education

LICENSES REQUIRED

Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• One (1) year of supervisory experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field.

• Experience with accounting for operating, capital and grant funds

• Experience/Knowledge of Cash Receipts and Accounts Payable processes and functions

• Supervisory experience in an accounting/financial background
