Vanderbilt University Concessions Worker, Seasonal in Nashville, Tennessee

The seasonal concessions worker is responsible for operating and handling the activities at a designated concession stand, usually at athletics games. Work responsibilities may differ slightly depending on the place of commission but mostly, concession stand workers’ duties are limited to food preparation, selling food and drinks, collecting money and tendering change, and picking up supplies and food items from vendors.

This concessions position is seasonal – for instance, these positions are needed for football, basketball and baseball games or a series of football games.

The hourly rate is $15.00 an hour, depending on position duties. Tips may be included.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests who approach the concession stand or call out for one (in case of mobile stands).

  • Take orders for food and beverages and prepare food items such as sandwiches, nachos, and hot dogs using appropriate quantities of ingredients.

  • Check guest's identification in order to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages and follow safe drinking guidelines when serving customers.

  • Follow proper sanitation guidelines during food preparation and packing activities.

  • Assist customers with prices and packing options and follow instructions regarding portions and packing guidelines.

  • Perform garnishing duties on food items to customers’ requirements and instructions.

  • Process cash payments and tender change, along with ensuring that all received cash is well-accounted for and stored in a safe area.

  • Participate in the set-up of concession stands, arrange inventory of supplies, and communicate shortages or deficiencies to vendors or suppliers.

  • Perform clean-up duties after each shift and ensure that concession stand is sanitized and tidied up for the next attendant.

  • Handle light bookkeeping duties by creating and maintaining reports of cash received against food and beverage items sold.

  • Clean and maintain food preparation equipment such as grills and ovens on a regular basis.


  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and evenings is required.

  • Ability to perform physical activities, stand and walk for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift weight up to 50 pounds is required.

  • Must have Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) permit or be able to acquire it before first game.
