Vanderbilt University Clinical Placement Coordinator, Part-time Temporary in Nashville, Tennessee

About the Work Unit:

Our research mission is to transform the discipline of nursing through research, practice and partnerships and to contribute to the social advancement and health of Tennessee, the nation, and the world. Vanderbilt School of Nursing (VUSN) supports the development of innovative research programs within VUSN that align strategically with other Vanderbilt University initiatives and that address national priorities to promote and protect health. The Center for Research Development and Scholarship supports many activities related to pre-award and post-award, federal, and non-federal grant submission and other scholarship activities.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

The following functions and performance should be handled with ease and professionalism, the key functions listed below are essential to the Clinical Placement process:

▪ Work with other clinical placement staff to identify sites for clinical rotations which could include the following sites:

▪ nurse-midwifery practices providing gynecologic, antepartum, and/or intrapartum care

▪ outpatient clinics (primary care, gynecologic care, and/or maternity care)

▪ accredited birth centers

▪ hospitals with birthing facilities

▪ facilities that provide midwifery care to underserved populations

▪ Cultivate ongoing relationships (site visits, email and phone communication, face to face meetings) with sites which may include:

▪ within a 4-hour radius of Nashville

▪ rural areas across the United States

▪ underserved areas across the United States

▪ Indian Health Service sites

▪ US Military bases with on-site hospitals with birthing facilities (across the globe)

▪ Meet with Principal Investigator (PI) regularly to discuss placements details, recruiting efforts, contracts, requirements, action items etc.

▪ Attend orientations for assigned specialties

▪ Model agreement contracts for local and distance students

▪ Responsible for making sure requirements are completed by local and distance students for

placements (license, background check, drug screen, immunization records, attestation letter, Board of Nursing requirements, workers comp insurance etc.)

▪ Attend regular Clinical Placement departmental and grant meetings

▪ Update and publish placement information in the Exxat portal including requirements for site, clinic address and details and preceptor information

▪ Communicate with the PI regarding student placement information, requirements, contract etc.

▪ Cold calling sites and geographic searches to recruit placements for local and distance students

Expected Performance:

▪ Successfully support MEADOW grant initiatives and ensure students begin clinical placement rotation on time

▪ Cultivate relationships with clinical agencies

▪ Comfortably navigate Exxat, the School of Nursing’s clinical placement software

▪ Collaborate well with various constituencies: agencies, facilities, faculty and students

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Principal Investigator of the MEADOW grant.

Education and Certifications:

▪ Bachelor’s Degree, required

Experience and Skills:

▪ 1-2 years of experience in higher education, preferred

▪ Experience in healthcare or clinical setting, a plus

▪ High degree of comfort using technology, required
