The Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Construction Inspector to join team.

In this role, you will:

  • Support senior technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling and testing, and construction traffic control.
  • Perform standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
  • Supervise junior technicians and contractors.
  • Assist in the coordination of work assignments.
  • Conduct highway construction surveying and layout.
  • Keep diaries on project operations, complete material reports, document pay records, perform construction calculations, and do data entry into a computer/iPad.
  • Apply independent decision-making and use good judgement.
  • Document and take corrective actions.
  • Apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.

What You Bring

  • Proficiency in recordkeeping.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications to perform material sampling and testing.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
  • Ability to complete daily diaries, survey notes and other recordkeeping items manually and electronically.
  • Math skills to perform construction-related math calculations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
  • Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Experience performing inspections, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
  • Computer skills using iPads and desktop computer, HiCams, SharePoint, and math functions.
  • Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, and Borrow Pit Sampling.
  • Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, in extreme temperatures, on uneven terrain, and during nights and weekends, if necessary.
  • Safety toe shoes.
