Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC08 / Salary Range: $36,682 - $64,194

This is an anticipated vacancy.

This position implements the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) program for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Crash data is a critical component in measuring safety elements and reducing fatal crashes nationwide. Position provides quality control review of fatal crash data and submit electronically to the Federal source. Reviews crash reports involving fatalities for critical data elements and identifiers. Researches, verifies, codes, enters, and transmits required data elements to the federal source using FARS provided hardware/software and guidelines. This position ensures compliance with FARS requirements and other federal quality control mandates. Work cooperatively with other research entities to increase the quality of the North Carolina crash data repository. Analyzes data and produces detailed reports identifying trends and potential concerns.

Provides support to law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders of commercial vehicle data. Provides general assistance related to crash data and the DMV-349 Crash report. This position must respond to requests for fatality related crash data, document issues, and resolve, if possible. If the problem requires the attention of other professionals such as the IT team, the employee must ascertain the nature of the problem and coordinate with the FARS appropriate resource. The position assesses fatality related data requirements of the State and communicates to the Crash Data Manager for action. Position develops and implements fatal crash reporting training initiatives for the law enforcement agencies, Division staff, private business customers and others upon request. Position works cooperatively with other data analysts and specialists.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook Calendar), and experience in a mainframe environment.

  • Knowledge reviewing and processing information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules, or regulations.

  • Experience working independently, as well as in a team environment, with information that may be sensitive in nature and with minimal supervision to meet production metrics/deadlines.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience .
