Purpose of Classification

The purpose of this classification is to oversee and provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for the users of Parks and Recreation summer camps.

Essential Functions

Supervises the users of Parks and Recreation summer camps at all times. Oversees the safety of camp users. Reports major problems, concerns and accidents to supervisors and/or site director. Monitors the conduct and activities of the patrons of camps; responds to situations involving disruptive behavior, suspicious behavior, potential medical problems, or other problems; reports problems to appropriate personnel; initiates calls for police, fire, or emergency medical services as needed. The employee must work with the Park Supervisor or designee to plan, organize, and conduct activities for a group of up to 25 children for eight (8) hours per day. Activities include sports, arts and crafts, field trips, music, and games. Activities may also take place outdoors; tennis and/or racquetball courts, playground, and soccer or softball fields. The employee must be able to lead outdoor activities up to six (6) hours per day. The employee must be able to keep track of children's whereabouts at all times. Field trips may involve going to the beach, bowling, roller skating, etc. Additional duties include daily and weekly lessons/activity planning, weekly staff meetings, parent conferences, preparing incident reports, discipline reports, attendance reports, and evaluation reports to submit to the supervisor and/or parents of the children and the patrons of the camp programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Some experience in camp programs or after school programs is desirable; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications. Must be 16 years or older. Fingerprinting is required.
