In the role of Field/Lab Scientist, we'll count on you to:
- Conduct field work for environmental/biological projects such as water quality data collection, biological sampling, and hydrography.
- Operate 20-28' boats, including trailering, deployment, and retrieval.
- Perform site inspections for environmental compliance, storm water inspections.
- Perform data interpretation and analysis, survey planning and write environmental reports.
- Lead efforts both in the field and lab, including giving direction to technicians and interfacing with clients.
- Perform light mechanical work when necessary.
- Perform all work with an eye to detail.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Environmental Science or related field
- Minimum of 5 years' experience conducting field surveys, preferably as a crew chief or field lead.
- Experience operating medium size (20-28 feet) boats including trailering.
- Experience collecting field data including the completion of datasheets, logs and chain-of-custody forms.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs and hike 1 mile over uneven terrain.
- Hydrographer/hydrography experience is a plus
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
- 40-hour OSHA Certification, 10-hour OSHA Construction certification & First Aid/CPR preferred
- Boat US safety course/Coast Guard / Auxiliary safety class or equivalent safe boating certification preferred
- This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with HDR vehicle policy
- This position may be subject to pre-employment drug test and drug and alcohol testing during the course of your employment based upon HDR's Drug Testing and Drug Free Workplace Policy
- Local candidates preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Microsoft Office product experience
- General background-related experience
