The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting temporary Field Inspectors located in the Treasure Valley area.

Example of Duties:

These positions will supervise the Field Inspectors in the Treasure Valley area. Field Inspectors and Team Leads are responsible for examining crop fields for signs and symptoms of plant pathogens and pests. The use of policy and systematic procedures is of the utmost importance. Collecting, documenting and properly storing samples; following proper sanitation protocol; and the ability to read maps are all essential skills. The ability to keep accurate records is required for such information as inspection locations, mileage, samples, and time spent conducting an inspection. The work day is spent in a variety of locations and requires travel between fields.

Requirements:

  • Ability to supervise Field Inspectors

  • Read road maps

  • Hike or walk for an extended period of time over long distances on uneven, rough or off-road terrain

  • Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind)

  • Possibility of working early mornings, evenings, weekends, or long hours

  • May have to use your own reliable transportation to go between job sites

  • ¾ length irrigation boots are required and may be reimbursed by the agency at the end of the season

  • Plant pathology or field inspection experience is desirable

  • Must be able to communicate to farmers and field representatives
