General Job Description
This is a service position responsible for supporting the conference and events operations within Auxiliary Enterprises. Responsible for performing work involving various physically demanding tasks including but not limited to transportation, set up, and strike of equipment and furnishings; custodial duties; and general maintenance. Work may vary depending upon daily assignments. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Assistant Director of Conference and Events.
Essential Job Functions
Prepares rooms and facilities for specific events using both written and pictorial event layout diagrams, ensuring setups meet customer specifications.
Transports, sets up, and strikes event equipment including but not limited to tables, chairs, staging, and other related furnishings.
Responds to requests for changes prior to and/or during events. Communicates routine problems and notifies supervisor of unusual problems.
Assists in maintaining casual furniture layouts in public spaces inside and around the Baker Pattillo Student Center.
Assists custodial and event staff with cleaning, maintenance, and/or inventory of supplies and equipment; locating misplaced items; and cleaning, organizing, and maintaining storage areas.
Inspects condition of equipment and facilities; repairs or reports to supervisor in a timely manner.
Unlocks and secures rooms and facilities for assigned events.
Provides positive customer service and maintains a service-oriented approach.
Practices safe work habits, uses safety equipment as required, and reports unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
Trains and provides work direction to assigned student workers.
Works extra hours, alternative shifts, and flexible hours as needed.
Non-Essential Job Functions
Serves as back up to other departmental staff when assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to operate standard tools and equipment related to the area of responsibility.
Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software and an understanding of the internet.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with general supervision.
Ability to train others.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
Physical Demands
Physical ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, including ability to stand for more than an hour at a time, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, lift up to 50 lbs., push up to 150 lbs., stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, climb, balance, talk, and hear regularly as well as close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Experience and Training
One year of related experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in event service operations at a hotel, banquet facility or related area is preferred. Custodial, service worker or janitorial experience is preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
