Position Summary:

The occupational therapist assistant assists the occupational therapist in carrying out a patient’s established plan of care. The occupational therapist assistant assumes the responsibility and accountability for administering treatment modalities, exercises, and procedures as determined by the plan of care established by an occupational therapist and in accordance with the State of Michigan Public Health Code Act 368 of 1978, in addition to established facility and departmental policies and procedures. The occupational therapist assistant works cooperatively with the patient’s team personnel in maintaining standards of professional practice and interdisciplinary teamwork to maintaining the highest degree of quality care.

The occupational therapist assistant is also responsible for the maintenance of continuing education requirements, certification, and state licensure requirements. The occupational therapy assistant is responsible to the service area manager and/or designated site leader.

What the COTA will do:

  • Responsible to the Service Area Manager or designated Site Leader to assist the Occupational Therapist with the administration of a medically prescribed occupational therapy program for assigned patients/clients. Functions under the direct supervision of the Occupational Therapist responsible for a specific patient's/client's care.

What the COTA will need:

  • Must be a graduate from an occupational therapy assisting program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

  • State of Michigan Occupational Therapist Assistant License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date.

  • Required: Associate’s Degree

  • American Heat Association BLS or equivalent
