MURRAY CITY CORP EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II / I OR MAINTENANCE WORKER (city roads) in MURRAY, Utah

Murray City is now accepting applications for EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II / I OR MAINTENANCE WORKER Closing Date: Open until filled (application review will begin 04/30/24) (Will fill based on experience) Salary: $23.50 - $35.66 hourly DOE (Operator II) $21.82 - $33.11 hourly DOE (Operator I) $20.13 - $30.55 hourly DOE (Maintenance Worker) Status: Full-time Department: Public Works/Solid Waste General Description: Under close supervision from a crew leader, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work in maintaining the Streets Division or semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of a variety of equipment and light to heavy duty trucks and duties related to construction and maintenance of city roads and other city facilities. Minimum Requirements: • Operator II: Two (2) years of experience as an Equipment Operator I in Murray City operating the specified equipment or four (4) years of experience in construction as an equipment operator or any equivalent combination of education and experience. • Operator I: Two (2) years experience as a Maintenance Worker in Murray City operating the specified equipment or three (3) years of experience in construction as an equipment operator or any equivalent combination of education and experience. • Maintenance Worker: Six (6) months construction/laborer experience. Special Requirements: Equipment Operator I or II • Must pass equipment operation proficiency exam. • Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver License. • Must possess a valid UDOT Flagman Certification Card. • Must possess a valid Traffic Control Technician Certification. • Must possess a Certified Pesticide Applicator license. • Must perform duties on trouble truck and must be generally available to respond to emergency "call outs" at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. Maintenance Worker • Must be able to obtain a Utah Commercial Driver License within six (6) months of appointment. • Must be able to obtain Flag Person Certification. • Must be able to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator license within six (6) months of appointment. • May perform duties on trouble truck and must be generally available and respond to emergency "call outs" at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. Essential Duties -- Operator II: • Operates single axle dump trucks, dual axle dump trucks with automatic and manual transmissions, loaders, roller and compactors, tractors, sprayers, sweepers, snowplows, lane striping equipment and salters, forklifts, road profilers, asphalt laydown machines, backhoes, garbage truck, grader. • Performs required manual labor in construction and maintenance projects; checks and services assigned equipment. Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs, reports complex mechanical problems for shop repairs. • May assist in loading and unloading of trucks, laying of pipe, using air tools and jackhammers, and other hand tools related to job. • Patches streets; digs holes; lays asphalt and pours cement; performs related concrete work, removes concrete, sets forms; places curbs and gutters, sidewalks, driveway approaches and waterways; removes snow; assists in flood control operations; cuts weeds; builds fences. • Trains less skilled employees in operation and care of equipment. • Has considerable knowledge of safety procedures and hazards related to construction, maintenance and equipment operation. • May function as a leadworker, on a limited basis. • Performs related duties as required. Operator I: • Operates single and double axel dump trucks, garbage truck, loaders, rollers and compactors, tractors, sprayers, sweepers, snowplows and salters, forklifts, etc. • Performs required manual labor in construction and maintenance projects; checks and services assigned equipment; performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs; reports complex mechanical problems for shop repair. • May assist in loading and unloading of rucks, laying pipe, using air to ols and jackhammers and other hand tools related to the job. • Patches streets; digs holes; lays asphalt and pours cement; performs related concrete work, removes concrete, sets forms; places curbs and gutters, sidewalks, driveway approaches and waterways; removes snow; assists in flood control operations; cuts weeds; builds fences. • Has a working knowledge of safety procedures and hazards related to construction,maintenance and equipment operation. • Performs related duties as required. Maintenance Worker: • Performs a wide variety of general maintenance and construction work using numerous hand and power tools. • May train in and operate both light and heavy equipment. • Threads pipe; mixes, pours and finishes cement; lays asphalt; maintains equipment upon request. • May assist others in installing sprinkling systems; assists others in picking up trash in the parks; cleaning restrooms,assists others in mowing, trimming, and watering lawns. • Patches street holes; rakes asphalt; shovels and sweeps debris in gutters; puts up and takes down street signs; paints streets; puts up and takes down cones. • Performs related duties as required.
