Geospatial Apprentice

Role Description

Wiser is looking for qualified candidates with an understanding of geography and geographic information systems (GIS). Comprehensive training is provided on the software, GIS, and source materials needed to complete the work. Note that familiarity with ERDAS Imagine is preferred. Apprentices work as a team to collect, maintain, analyze, and interpret geographic information as needed for our clients. This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

• Position is funded through November 2024 with the possibility of the government exercising additional option years (extending). Extension is not guaranteed.

• Perform digital feature extraction from multiple data sources

• Attribute digital data accurately

• Understand and follow complex project specific guidance

• Independently use technical resource and guidance documents

• Perform data checks and other data quality controls including but not limited to attribution checks and managing associated documents

• Clean geographic data errors and omissions

• Apply cartographic editing techniques to include feature displacement, thinning, symbolization, and annotation

• Suggest and implement improved work methods

  Minimum Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen

• Desk or workstation suitable for remote work; reliable computer; high speed internet; multiple monitors

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing (RS), Information Technology, Environmental Science, Geosciences, or related discipline is preferred; or equivalent combination education and experience.

• 1-3 years of professional and relevant geospatial work experience.

• Familiarity with ERDAS Imagine, ArcGIS, and other related GIS software

• Ability to self-lead using customer guidance

• Ability to meet production deadlines with minimal errors

• Ability to communicate with a diverse team of people

  Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience using ERDAS Imagine

• Experience producing National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) standard and non-standard products and datasets is a plus

• Previous knowledge of or doing Quality Control tasks for Janus 261, Janus 233 and/or Janus 248 Land and Ground Cover (VISNAV), Intermittent Water/Saturated Soils (IW/SS), and/or Land Subject to Inundation (LSI) experience is a plus

  Work Environment

• Work is performed remotely, Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week (8 hours per day).
