Firm Risk Management

Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, model and other risks.

Department Profile

The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley’s risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley’s capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the firm from exposure to losses resulting from market volatilities and defaults by our lending and trading counterparties. Morgan Stanley’s Model Risk Management (MRM) department resides within Morgan Stanley’s Firm Risk Management Division. Morgan Stanley’s global MRM team, spread across New York, London, Mumbai and Budapest is broadly responsible for the risk management of all of the Firm’s models involving model validation, risk assessment, and governance and act as an effective second line of defence within the Firm.

Background on the Position Efficiency Evolution is a small sub-team comprising of team members skilled in Software Development within Model Risk Management (MRM) - Department, focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the department by increasing the quality and reproducibility of our existing code bases, and developing new tools and information systems to support the process of model validation and independent testing.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software applications using Python
• Design and implement continuous integration pipelines to streamline development workflows and automated testing.
• Develop and distribute Python packages to support internal tools and applications.
• Ensure packages are well-documented, well-tested, and maintainable.
• Engage with stakeholders, such as model reviewers and independent testers, to understand their needs and build the tools they require to perform their jobs more effectively and efficiently.

Skills Required

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Extensive experience with Python, Git, and Linux.
• Extensive experience with data management, analytics, and visualization.
• Proven track record of developing Python packages with appropriate documentation and test suites.
• Proven track record of developing robust Continuous Integration and Continuous Development pipelines.
• Strong background in Machine Learning and Statistics, ideally in the Banking/Finance industry.Experience with RDBMS and other types of database management systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing objectives.
