Department Profile

The Global Portfolio Analysis and Reporting (GPAR) Team is part of the Global Risk & Analysis team at MSIM and is responsible for performance and risk portfolio analytics for internal and external clients. Activities covered by the team include portfolio return attribution, ex-post risk analytics, portfolio characteristics, competitive analysis.

Description of Role

GPAR is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Mumbai team. As Analyst/Associate of attribution and performance analytics, you will work closely with the investment teams, risk team, sales & marketing, senior management to provide both standard and bespoke performance analyses, with a focus on Fixed Income asset class, additional asset class / areas (Equity, Multi Asset, Competitive Analysis reporting) of coverage might be assigned. The individual should have a willingness and interest in continually expanding one’s knowledge of the investment process, finance/economics, and applied investment analytical skills. The group has a strong, team-based orientation, yet relies upon its members to take responsibility and ownership of their coverage responsibilities and client base. Thorough professionalism in all technical and non-technical aspects of the position is required. You will also play a lead role in various functional integration initiatives related to businesses acquired by MSIM.

Key responsibilities

· Provide performance attribution / contribution reporting for assigned areas of product coverage, with an emphasis on Fixed Income strategies.

· Provide secondary coverage for other asset class / areas (Equity, Multi Asset, Competitive Analysis reporting)

· Respond to ad hoc attribution/contribution requests; perform custom analysis and detailed examination of calculations and output.

· Play an active role in ensuring and improving data integrity/quality.

· Significant one to one interaction with investment team members, product specialists, client service administrators, and other investment professionals on a variety of issues relating to investment performance and the decomposition of returns.

· Collaborate with the Information technology and Project management teams to re-engineer processes and increase effectiveness of existing reporting.

· Candidate should also be capable of writing interpretive commentary to the reports being produced; presenting reports and interpretations to senior management; and designing new reports that influence the executive decision-making process at MSIM.

Experience and Skills

· Working knowledge of traditional asset management investments (cash equities, fixed income, FX forwards and other derivatives).

· Asset management performance calculation and reporting experience including knowledge of CFA Institute Guidelines.

· In depth understanding of attribution theory and practice.

· Working knowledge of GIPS and best practices.

· Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills along with a high attention to detail.

· Advanced knowledge of Excel, including designing, creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets, queries, reports and charts.

· Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

· Strong individual initiative with the ability to take a proactive approach to assigned projects and new team initiatives.

· Ability to think strategically and build on system capabilities.

· Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Qualifications / Technical Expertise

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics or a quantitative field.

· 1-5 years of relevant experience.

· Demonstrate thorough knowledge of both traditional asset management and alternatives investments (derivatives, fixed income, cash equities, mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity).

· Experience in using FactSet, Blackrock Aladdin, Bloomberg, and other performance attribution vendor systems is preferred. Additional proprietary tools are also used.

· Understanding of basic accounting principles - ability to interpret performance impact of various transactions and corporate actions.

· Asset management performance calculation knowledge, including of alternatives return calculations.

· Understanding of attribution theory and practice

· Advanced knowledge of Excel, including designing, creating, and maintaining complex spreadsheets, power queries, reports, and charts.

· Python, SQL, data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) desired.

· Prior experience with driving process efficiencies is desired.

· Intellectual curiosity along with excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
