The Sr Product Design Facilitator, Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE), will dig deep with the customer to unearth the most compelling insights and problems to solve. Through running collaborate design thinking exercises, you ensure the solutions we deliver are appealing, innovative, relevant, and responsible.

In addition to collaborating directly with customers, the Product Design Facilitator, Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE), will be working with our group of Microsoft Data Scientists, Program Managers, & Engineers to drive outcomes that deliver business value for our customers underpinned by human centred principles. Our work on projects is often changing and ambiguous, so knowing how to work with flexibility is needed.

You will need to have the business acumen to understand customer business problem spaces across the varied industries we work in and proactively undertake design research for the purpose of uncovering unstated needs that help define customer solutions. Responsibilities

Product Design

  • Leads complex product design initiatives from user insights to end-to-end experiences and communicates the value to leadership.

Design Components

  • Owns, as a gatekeeper and reviewer, the use and adoption of latest design system (e.g., content templates, icons, form design, user-interface [UI] controls, navigation models, design trends) updates in the industry and/or making a case for acquiring the system. Helps others use the system and drives consistency, alignment, and standards across multiple teams.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicates effectively with leadership and cross-disciplinary teams through all stages of design and development. Cultivates and evangelizes product story to inspire excitement and support.

  • Leads collaboration with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define and iterate on product features. Influences stakeholders across disciplines and connects dots between teams for optimal product designs.

Leadership

  • Directs others to generate ideation solutions for complex products (e.g., involving many constraints, needing workarounds, requiring holistic view of interconnected systems) to improve product designs. Brings diverse teams together and provides input on the strategic utilization of a variety of perspectives when ideating (e.g., business, experience, technology). Synthesizes complex and challenging ideation solutions to a concise articulation of user wants and subsequent solutions.

  • Provides oversight and design guidance to the team of developers. Ensures full understanding of the original design and vision, and links to established problem and/or goal. Mentors designers in all areas of ownership. Influences those outside of design. Is a leader in the craft of design. Acts a steward of creative work across their team. Interviews and screens candidates.

  • Handles resource and budget management for a product team (e.g., scoping projects, making the case for headcount, allocating resources, facilitating team members' relationships)

Other

  • Build trust and bring energy to successfully facilitate a co-creative approach that is iterative and sets stakeholders up with evidence to make informed trade-offs

  • Leading ideation for complex products that require a holistic view of interconnected systems. Apply ingenuity, inventiveness, and imagination to the design and construction of products, services, programs, or initiatives.

  • Translating understanding of context and users into actionable recommendations and compelling end-to-end product artifacts (e.g. visualizations of findings and insights) that progress desired outcomes for customers and teams.

  • Conducting both qualitative and quantitative research to understand customer needs, discover pain points, and evaluate experiences.

  • Representing Design and Design Research disciplines within technically oriented, multidisciplinary teams.

  • Creating wireframes, journey maps, user jobs, scenarios, task flows, and personas for interaction designs while ensuring all solutions uphold our responsible AI principles.

  • Communicating with cross-disciplinary teams (both internal and with customer participants) through all stages of design and development while managing respectful and inclusive tonality.

  • Communicating compelling product stories to specific audiences, sharing stories with leaders, and adjusting narratives as needed.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

Other Requirements

  • This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

  • 6+ years experience using related software and packages (e.g., Photoshop/Adobe suite, Midjourney, Mental Ray, Substance Designer/Painter/Zbrush, SideFX Houdini, After Effects, Unity, Maya/Softimage).

  • Proven excellence in creating visual representations of complex concepts.

  • Excellence in leveraging AI tool for image creation and part of creative process.

  • Ability to storyboard or otherwise story-tell and visualize a user’s experience in the workplace

  • Experience going through design thinking process directly in collaboration with customers

Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
