Microsoft Corporation Principal Technical Program Manager in Multiple Locations, United States

We're looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager to help make open-source software more secure. You will lead security engagements with industry communities such as the Linux Foundation, Open Source Software Foundation, IETF, and more. This is a critical endeavor as our customers, our partners, and our company are increasingly benefiting from and dependent on open-source software. You'll enable us to bring the best of open-source security technologies and practices into Microsoft. You'll also bring the best of Microsoft's technologies and practices to the open-source community.

The Open Source Ecosystem team is part of the Azure Office of the CTO and works across many parts of Microsoft to ensure we engage thoughtfully with the open source community. Our work spans areas such as open source security, cloud native computing, artificial intelligence, real time operating systems, and more.

Microsoft's engagement with the open source community has been strong. This role is responsible for continuing to strengthen that engagement. If you're excited about technology, innovation, and collaboration with the open source community, then this is a great role for you.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Technical Program Manager you'll focus on understanding industry-wide customer needs for security, integrity, and resilience across end-to-end supply chains, and using this to help define pragmatic solutions that are simple and operable in today's public cloud environments. This work has a long term impact and will help shape our industry.

Ultimately you're part of a community creating source code and practices used to secure open-source software. Ideal candidates are hands on, working directly with code, data models, and protocol definitions. You'll also work on standards development, which involves tool and process development as well as validation and maintenance of specifications. Finally, you'll represent Microsoft, presenting on our behalf at industry forums and conferences with the goal of helping others understand and adopt technology related to open-source security, specifically supply chain security.

Ideal candidates take joy in working with the open source community and have a track record of successful collaboration with this community in the past. You're adept at working across large, diverse organizations which may not always be aligned, both externally and internally. You're skilled at listening to different perspectives and then creating a unifying strategy for engaging with the community. Microsoft benefits from the community engagements and you'll increase Microsoft's ability to leverage open source tools, practices, and projects as part of our broader business.

We leverage written narratives, not PowerPoint decks, as they enable us to have richer discussions about our strategy. You're a skilled writer able to write documents that crystalize the critical issues to be discussed. You think big and have a track record for building virtual teams that deliver novel solutions.

The open source community is not one single community, but a complex set of intertwined communities that need are supported by contributions from individuals and companies alike. Since our work is done in collaboration with these communities, you will ensure we are humble and supportive in sharing what we've learned from customers as well as our recommended path forward.

Ideal candidates enjoy learning. Because we work on the leading edge of computing, we'll rely on you to master new concepts quickly, leveraging your unique experiences to help us understand these concepts in relation to existing concepts. You are successful because you leverage your depth of experience in areas like cloud computing, security, and/or developer tools.
