Team or Function Overview

This position will be on the Mt. Vernon, Indiana plant operations team, located about 20 miles west of Evansville. This GAF site was founded in 1973 and produces a wide variety of asphaltic shingles and rolled roofing materials.

Summary

The primary responsibility of the Mobile Equipment Mechanic is to provide professional, timely, and accurate repair of mobile equipment and machinery. There are occasions where this incumbent will be scheduled to perform mechanic duties in other areas of the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoots mobile equipment problems, researches parts needed for repairs, orders necessary parts, and makes repairs in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.

  • Writes work orders, plans each job, including daily scheduling of time with regards to mobile equipment.

  • Maintains adequate and accurate parts inventory.

  • Operates lift trucks and other mobile equipment as required.

  • Completes and submits all required paperwork in an accurate manner.

  • Detects, reports and repairs faulty operation, defective material and equipment and other unusual conditions to teammates and appropriate personnel.

  • Responsible for safe operation of machines and equipment in compliance with Standard Operating Procedure. Responsible for communicating quality and machine problems to supervisor, team members and maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment resulting in operational downtime ensuring the essential care, maintenance and operation of the equipment.

  • Conducts Preventative Maintenance procedures that may be performed on facility equipment to ensure the essential care, maintenance and operation of equipment.

  • Complete Preventative Maintenance and Down Day work orders with precision, ensuringthatallcomponentsareverifiedforproperandsafeoperationpriorto startup.

  • Verify component information, specifications and location before installation to ensure that appropriate parts are installed in exact specification as replaced parts.

  • Reads instructions, prints, manuals, and written procedural instructions.

  • Safely and professionally utilize: hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, electrical instrumentation, and forklift.

  • Works on pipe systems, which would involve repairing, modifying and installing systems.

  • Perform all phases of welding including MIG, TIG and Rod.

  • Use cutting torch and bronze with a torch.

  • Perform millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor with dial indicator, install sheaves, belts, align equipment, check installation for square and belt tension.

  • Remove and install bearings and be able to perform all maintenance work required on bearings.

  • Works with applicable predictive technologies to improve operations.

  • Maintainstoolsandtestequipmenttomaintainplantelectricalsystems.

  • Assists with maintaining accurate records to include but not limited to: Maximo, storeroom, calibration, and drawings.

  • Participates in the continuing training process.

  • Maintainsworkareainneatandorderlycondition.

  • Worksscheduledshiftsandovertimeasassigned.Afterhourssupportmaybe necessary to support mobile equipment emergencies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch

  • Ability to perform detailed testing processes in various process conditions

  • Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of manufacturing equipment and machinery

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Automotive or diesel powered equipment technical schooling/training is preferred.

  • Previous experience diagnosing and repairing mobile equipment required.

  • Experience in a continuous process manufacturing experience, preferably 3-5 years of demonstrated plant maintenance experience and/or training.

  • Intermediate math and analytical skills

  • Intermediate proficiency using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and solve problems

  • Intermediate proficiency in maintaining electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • FamiliarwithstandardManufacturingconcepts,practices,andprocedure

  • Computer knowledge and experience is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of self-motivation.
