Google Security Engineer, Compute Investigations in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3 years of experience in software reverse engineering, code level security auditing or Android system security.

  • 2 years of experience in application level vulnerability testing.

  • Experience with Java.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with static and dynamic analysis of malicious binaries.

  • Experience reading assembly, with an understanding of how to unpack obfuscated code.

  • Familiarity with tools such as IDA Pro or OllyDbg.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly communicate technical concepts with multiple cross-regional and cross-functional stakeholders.

There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

You use your industry experience to own and drive the resolution of complex security incidents, policy questions and technical security issues.

In this role, you will be responsible for protecting Google's users by ensuring online safety by fighting fraud and abuse across Google products, such as Chrome, Play, Gmail and Search. You will understand the user's point of view and use technical, investigative, and strategic acumen to protect our users. You will work globally and cross-functionally with Google Engineers and Product Managers to navigate online safety situations and manage abuse and fraud at Google scale. You will also be responsible for finding new malware and unwanted behaviors in Android, reverse engineering them, and mitigating their damage.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Design solutions that enable automatic identification of harmful or unwanted Android applications.

  • Analyze harmful or unwanted Android applications to understand their behavior and their impact on the Android ecosystem.

  • Conduct investigations to identify new harmful behaviors, enforce product policies, and analyze distribution trends.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups, such as Engineering, Policy and Legal to update policies, fix product loopholes, and provide users with a better mobile experience.
