Microsoft Corporation Mechanical Engineer in Mountain View, California

Microsoft Mixed Reality is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development and Mechanical Engineering team at our Mountain View, CA campus. The candidate should be a motivated self-starter who will thrive in this fast-paced technical environment.

As a Mechanical Engineer , you will create and refine mechanical part designs through full product development cycles, from ideation to mass production. This work involves integrating optical and electronic assemblies with mechanisms and mechanical enclosures to create great augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) experiences. To do this, you will be asked to balance the needs of customers, budget, schedule and product requirements while communicating effectively across partner teams. You will create mechanical drawings, work with overseas manufacturers, and refine your designs through prototype builds and reliability validation. At times, you will be required to travel to support validation and manufacturing activities overseas and across the US.

Responsibilities

  • Create novel and robust mechanical designs in CAD that meet product requirements, schedule and budget

  • Interpret test plans and, under guidance, develop drawings for well-defined products or features.

  • Carry out validation testing on mechanical assemblies in our Mountain View laboratories. Identify flaws in your designs using root-cause analysis and validate ideas by building prototypes.

  • Identify problems, communicate personal progress, and create documentation of your work.

Qualifications

Re quired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.

  • Microsoft Cloud Screening

  • Cloud Screening: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with PTC Creo or similar mechanical CAD package

Mechanical Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
