About the role
- The Data Center Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for assisting and augmenting day-to-day capacity of the Mechanical Engineering team working on the client's large hyperscale data center construction program within the Global Data Center - Execution Engineering team! This includes design & localization of new hyperscale data centers and campuses, supporting operations staff with engineering solutions, and streamlining construction issues resolutions, as further detailed below:
What you’ll do
Review and assist technical development of mechanical systems (both airside & waterside) for hyperscale data centers including campus planning, general layout/arrangements, CFD & noise modeling, climate data evaluations, hydraulic analyses, pipe sizing, bin hour analyses, etc.
Oversee A/E design consultants and provide direction or amplification in accordance with established engineering standards.
Peer review consultants’ deliverables including drawing sets, specifications, sequence of operations, calculations, models, etc. and provide comments & resolutions
Review and provide recommendations on potential value engineering opportunities
Analyze for redundancies, failure modes, and Single Points Of Failure (SPOFs) while working with Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) modelers to verify conformance.
Perform rapid conceptual sketches using CAD or BIM for visualization and spatial/dimensional validations for internal purposes only
Experience with waterless cooling solutions (i.e.: air-cooled chillers, dry coolers, airside economizer/IDEC/DX, etc.) preferred
Experience with EPA regulations and emissions after-treatment solutions for diesel generators preferred
Assist and occasionally lead projects and solutioning of mechanical issues, outages, fleet-wide improvements and other needs arising from existing, operational YAWN campuses as ExE (Execution Engineering) representative in direct support of DCOps partners.
Evaluate post-mortem reports, 8D/root cause analyses and presentations and make comments and recommendations.
Assist in generating solution/upgrade/improvement options that have a fleet-wide impact to improve reliability and availability of critical operational infrastructure.
Assist data analytics of operational trends (historian trend logs) to evaluate equipment health, remaining useful life and predictive failure models.
Experience in hydroponics systems, water quality management and corrosion/fouling prevention is helpful
Proficiency in fuel oil quality standards is helpful
Work with partners in construction, design and change management to compile, prioritize/triage and process construction originated engineering issues (i.e.: Data Center Bounty program) for standard design/product improvements.
Occasionally develop engineering bulletins and route through established procedures to ensure wide dissemination of design changes.
Support in overall standard design improvement loops/processes between products, design, construction and operations.
Visit construction sites or operational sites only if needed
Operate client's internal “Buganizer” platform to file new bugs, work orders or close out
Build presentations (or ‘presos’) using Google Slides software as the main ‘deliverable’ format to communicate findings, evaluations and options to internal collaborators.
What you’ll need
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience, with at least 2 years of experience in data center construction
Familiarity with Google Workspace and its related products (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
Experience and knowledge of working with cross-disciplinary teams, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, electrical, and architectural.
Solid understanding of large-scale, data center mechanical infrastructure, including cooling and fire protection.
Familiarity with mission critical infrastructure.
Experience coordinating scope with multiple trades (architecture, telecom, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural)
Must be able to work independently remotely, but also willing to travel to construction sites with little or no supervision.
Experience with data center projects inside and outside of the US is strongly preferred.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Data Center Mechanical Engineer - Construction Program Management position is $150,000 annually and the maximum salary for the Data Center Mechanical Engineer - Construction Program Management position is $175,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program. This role will provide the following benefits: 401(K), Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, and Vision insurance.
