About the Team:

X is a moonshot factory. Our inventors, engineers, designers, and makers apply audacious thinking and radical new technology to huge problems. We tackle ideas that have the riskiness of research and run at them with the focus and speed of a startup. Our goal is to develop and de-risk early-stage technologies and turn them into products that can be the foundation for large, sustainable businesses.

You’ll join a team focused on amplifying and empowering the incredible people of X, showcasing X and its projects to the outside world in inspirational ways, and activating our home in Mountain View as the destination for radical innovation.

About the role:

X runs many different experiments and projects, with moonshot teams exploring fields as diverse as ocean health, decarbonization, computational biology, clean energy, and high speed Internet connectivity. We’re looking for a seasoned, hands-on marcomm leader to partner with these diverse projects and shape their marketing and communications strategies.

You’ll bring energy, creativity, curiosity, media savvy, strategic thinking, and smart judgment to helping these projects reach key audiences and share their moonshots with the world. You’ll be an adept storyteller, passionate about telling project stories in compelling ways across a variety of channels. You’ll integrate marketing campaigns that tie together content, social, media, and events. And you’ll share your deep experience in designing and implementing public relations, marketing, and business development plans for early stage companies.

How you will make 10X impact:

• Advise project teams on messaging and positioning

• Develop marcomm plans in partnership with the project’s lead

• Direct speaker and influencer programs to drive awareness of X moonshots

• Develop creative campaigns to connect the projects to key audiences

What you should have:

• 10+ years of guiding and supporting early stage startups in PR, branding, marketing, and product marketing

• Demonstrated interest in the fields of science and technology

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and comfortable with ambiguity

• A love of lifelong learning

• Based in the Bay Area

It’d be great if you also had these:

• A deep knowledge of the innovation ecosystem, and strong contacts across the industry

• A demonstrated interest in climate and sustainability. (More than half of X’s current projects are focused on climate mitigation and adaptation efforts.)

• Strong contacts across business and tech media

• Experience leading a strategic marketing and communications program to advance an organization’s mission.

• Strong brand development and management skills, with a deep understanding of digital and traditional marketing channels and emerging trends.

• Brand Building – Experience executing integrated marketing initiatives that build brand identity and deliver on the brand proposition

• Quick learner, eager to explore new technologies and experiments

• Event production experience

  The US base salary range for this position is $206,000-$216,000 + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
