Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Tribal School Principal, provide culturally responsive, resiliency-informed, and trauma-informed instructional services while maintaining a positive learning environment for Native American students in elementary grades at the Tribal School. All education staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and provide instructional services to Native American students in elementary grades.
  • Assist in the development of exemplary programs designed to accommodate the cultural, educational, social, emotional, creative and other learning needs of students.
  • Develop creative, engaging lesson plans and instructional materials according to Tribal Education Advisory Board approved educational standards.
  • Provide instruction to make the curriculum accessible to each student.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, families and the Tribal community.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom community.
  • Participate in cultural teachings and professional development opportunities to reinforce concepts in the classroom.
  • Possess a working knowledge of balanced assessment and data analysis to identify areas for improvement in differentiated instruction, and areas of need or strength for students.
  • Plan and coordinate the involvement of paraprofessionals, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Work with other Tribal programs to insure a holistic approach within the classroom.
  • Interpret school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual students needs and the schools role in the student`s life.
  • Work with Tribal Schools Principal and Tribal Education Department staff for purposes of planning, scheduling, decision making, problem solving, etc.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all other privacy regulations.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

  • Empowered to interact with students in a classroom situation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of education principles and practices and curriculum development.

Knowledge of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and resiliency-informed instructional practices.

Knowledge in records management.

Skill in teaching children in PK-5 grades.

Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
