MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

Position Summary:
Responsible for installation, repair, programming, and preventive maintenance of University-owned broadcast and networking equipment. Systems include managed Ethernet switches, audio over IP networks, video over IP networks, file servers, digital routing gear, and automation systems.
Required Qualifications:
Education equivalent to 2 years of broadcast, network administration, electronics repair, or related maintenance and repair training at the college or trade school level. Possession of a valid Driver's License. Ability to travel and engage in evening and weekend work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years traditional broadcast or new media experience. Experience in both radio and television broadcast systems, air conditioning systems, fiber optics, remote control systems, IP network infrastructure, and plumbing systems typically deployed for transmission equipment cooling. Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to the maintenance and repair of current state of the art broadcast equipment, both analog and digital, at the component level. Ability to design, install, and perform the necessary maintenance on, digital, analog, audio, video, RF, network systems and data technologies with extremely strong trouble-shooting skills. Strong computer and networking skills with a good understanding of various and current operating systems, networking, and software applications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintaining and providing a high degree of proficiency in the maintenance of networking equipment, IP STL and TSL codecs, digital video and audio recording/playback systems, and video/audio automation. Evaluates systems in place to ensure their correct performance in supplying correct video/audio channel play out for multicast television and radio broadcast. Provides firmware upgrades, software updates, and repairs to various systems; this includes such equipment as cameras, computers, managed. Ethernet switches, automation systems, video server/storage systems, routing/distribution/switching equipment, IP based audio networks, video networks, and video/audio monitoring systems. Works with other departments and equipment vendors to solve work-flow issues and/or problems with the various interconnected systems. Ensures correct operation, repair, and upgrade of all HD video and audio production equipment including but not limited to remote production technologies, field test equipment, and equipment based at studios. Supports broadcast automation server, storage, transmission, and production activities of CMU educational departments. Travel, evening and weekend work will be required on occasion.
