Assistant Director/Marketing & Communications

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for managing the image and reputation of the College of Education and Human Services through the development, direction, and implementation of communication strategies and in partnership with University Communications. The Assistant Director is responsible for the creation of all marketing collateral, consisting of print and digital, primarily related to academic program offerings, news/events, outreach, and scholarly activities for distribution to internal and external audiences. This position also coordinates outreach activities on behalf of the Dean to engage with CEHS constituents and alumni.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, English or graphic design. Three years of relevant experience, such as graphic and/or web design experience. Experience leading and developing communication and marketing campaigns. Experience with CRM systems. Fluency in current design and publishing software. Strong understanding of integration of graphic design and information design for mission promotion. Strong planning and conceptual design skills. Strong writing and editing skills. Strong typography skills. Strong production skills and thorough knowledge of printing processes. Demonstrated ability to work independently and be proactive. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to work with a wide range of clientele. Excellent interpersonal, time management, communication and follow through skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize as needed. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain positive interpersonal relations. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working within established college or large organization branding and graphic standards. Experience designing for the web and knowledge of website usability and emerging web technologies. Experience with basic HTML, CSS, illustration. Experience in an educational setting.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Works with the Dean's office leadership team, CEHS departments and programs, and the University Communications office to develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive communications plan for CEHS that includes a sustained, targeted media/public relations campaign. Develops, structures, and carries out recurring communication strategies. Communicates with CEHS constituents -- primarily alumni -- to generate involvement in and support for CEHS programs. Collaborates with the CEHS Dean's office staff to plan, coordinate, promote, and host special events. Responsible for recruiting, selecting, directing, and supervising the work of student intern(s) on assigned projects. Creates reports, presentations, monthly newsletters, and digital messages for internal communications. Responsible for routine content development, layout, and maintenance of the CEHS primary website. Provides oversight and guidance to department/center web collaborators in the development and maintenance of subsidiary webpages. Leads efforts to fulfill projects as directed by University Communications which includes full web redesign on internal and external facing pages. Provides and/or coordinates training for department/center web collaborators as necessary. Designs and prepares specifications for college publications using appropriate computer design software.
