Caterpillar Inc. seeks Sr Engineer-Perf/Sim/App at its facility located at 14009 N Old Galena Rd, Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Job Duties: Engineering related individual contributor position requiring deep expertise in one or multiple technical areas. Perform complex analysis work, identify and resolve problems with a major focus on technical delivery. Work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams and enhance general and business skills. Communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may significantly impact: product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception. Utilize analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Meet goals for cost, reliability, and performance, and managing multiple priorities. Keep up-to-date on changing customer needs as projects progress, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on projects to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians. Bear responsibility for completion projects with major focus on delivery. Have direct contact with products, machines, or components while working in the field or at customer sites, have direct contact with suppliers and customers to develop processes or resolve problems. Key areas of responsibility may include: evaluating products and processes; performing needs analysis and initiating ideas; performing product maintenance; keeping up to date on new technologies or developing new technologies; communicating technical information to dealers, customers, team members, suppliers, and other units; supporting and advising other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, dealers, customers, and suppliers; and developing and maintaining keen understanding of internal and external customers’ needs. Manage own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology. Key skills include: data extraction/analysis, failure analysis and problem solving, application of simulation tools and methods, and practical application of theory and concepts.

REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field and 5 Years of experience developing performance, controls, or behavioral system simulations of heavy-duty: diesel engines, spark ignited engines, dual fuel engines, or engine aftertreatment systems and subsystems or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field and 18 months of experience developing performance, controls, or behavioral system simulations of heavy-duty: diesel engines, spark ignited engines, dual fuel engines, or engine aftertreatment systems and subsystems or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Matlab and Simulink with Control Systems Toolbox, Vector CANape, GT-Power; (2) Classical control theory with Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems; (3) Control system development process, including verification and validation process for the same through simulation, bench testing and in-application testing; and (4) 18 months of product development experience using NPI and NTI process.

Summary Pay Range:

$133,266. – $165,840

Compensation and benefits may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market, location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience.  Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
