BUNZL Sr. Product Information Manager in Morton Grove, Illinois


The Sr. Product Information Manager will be responsible for leading and executing our digital product information strategy in support of eCommerce initiatives. In collaboration with the VP of eCommerce and Digital Marketing, this position will be responsible for designing the architecture to collect, maintain and disseminate product information that supports our multi-channel go-to-market strategy. The successful candidate will lead the business through the development and implementation of better collection and maintenance processes that enable the business to accelerate profitable growth and win online.

The role is also responsible for managing the product information management system for product-related attributes, which will be synchronized to multiple data driven solutions. These solutions synchronize through various segments and platforms. This position requires collaboration with master data and regulatory, marketing, eCommerce, R&D, and Sales.

  • Development of digital Product Information Management architecture and processes that support the expansion of digital assets for the organization.

  • Develop best in class product information management best practices that include data collection, maintenance, and seamless integration with digital business processes.

  • Lead the development of advanced taxonomy and standards across multiple and complex categories in support of a multi-channel go-to market strategy.

  • Lead data aggregation processes and implement best practices through a multi-prong development strategy that includes digital asset acquisition from suppliers, manufacturers, data aggregators, and internal partners.

  • Documents and manages data attributes, taxonomy, hierarchy, workflow, and procedures in the PIM (Product Information Management) system.

  • Liaison with data pool (i.e., 1WorldSync/GDSN/GS1) to ensure accurate and timely flow of information.

  • Maintenance of the attribute data dictionary, which houses attribute source metadata as well as governance information.

  • Communicate and coordinate internally any changes or upcoming initiatives that will require additional data governance, data validation, or process improvements.

  • Serve as the primary systems administrator of the PIM and subject matter expert relating to creating new attributes, assigning access, creating workflows, and creating reports.

  • Own end to end process for managing and distributing product attribute content.

  • Collaborate with multiple business segments in support of gathering product information attributes for evolving customer markets and strategic initiatives.

  • Responsible for compliance associated with required Product Information Management practices.

  • Develop and manage content syndication capabilities and processes to support multiple channels in collaboration with IT.

  • Map and transform data/assets in delivery to meet business requirements.

  • Leverage PIM functionality to improve manual processes – workflows, lists, automated properties, notifications

  • Implement product information accuracy metrics that allow the organization to manage the health of our categories and product families for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

  • Collaborate with peers and various business partners supporting overall eCommerce & Marketing initiatives.

  • Manage multiple projects and collaborate with digital marketing and business partners on deliverables and business objectives.

  • Provides training to users in utilizing the PIM (inRiver).

  • Respond to both internal and external requests for product-related data and assist with the prioritization effort.

  • Work with Digital Marketing & eCommerce teams to ensure all data flows to/from the related systems

  • Coordinates projects related to data enrichment, data cleansing, and process improvement by defining and managing project scope, deliverables, resources required, and timelines

  • Proactively plan for upcoming changes (new attributes, new products, legislation, certifications, new ways of business).

  • Actively participate and collaborate with direct and indirect suppliers; e. manufacturers, inRiver, 1WorldSync, Optimizely (Insite), etc.

  • Partner with Product Category Management and creative teams to ensure the content aligns with strategy and timeline.

  • Management of indirect and direct Product Information Management resources.


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 5-7+ years’ work experience required.

  • Experience in development and management of product taxonomy disciplines and attribute data collection processes.

  • Strong process orientation and experience that advances taxonomy definitions, data gathering, analysis, and design.

  • Previous experience with taxonomy definition, standardization of data attributes, mapping, and validation.

  • Superior technical skills with a strong knowledge of data flow, corporate databases, and tables.

  • in River & Optimizely experience preferred.

  • Immediate to advanced skills in Excel required.

  • Ability to extract, analyze and report on data required.

  • Must be detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.

  • Supervisory and management experience; internal and external support resources.

  • Excellent communication skills required.

  • Proven track-record forming partnerships and influencing effectively across all areas of the organization.
