BUNZL Business Development Manager Value Added Services in Morton Grove, Illinois


The Business Development Manager’s primary responsibilities are to deliver measurable results that achieve or exceed company objectives with respect to the acquisition, retention and expansion of client revenue. This position hunts and acquires new business opportunities aligned with BRS Growth strategies, protects relationships, and maximizes recurring revenue opportunities with BRS-VAS client partners.


  • Be a role model for BRS’s company culture

  • Follow/Utilize BRS-VAS best practices with respect to Business Development -Sales and Marketing.

  • Perform cold calls and other outreach to qualified leads

  • Initial inquiries and presentation of bids through conversion to purchase orders – closing new sales, recurring sales and creating future prospects.

  • Develop monthly/weekly sales plans that include prospecting activities and forecast.

  • Maintain and refine database or list of prospective client/prospects for sales leads

  • Perform proactive outreach to existing and returning clients within a defined territory, location or as assigned

  • Build strong relationships with clients and prospects that generate sales, guide problem resolution discussions and ultimately lasting partnerships

  • Utilize market research to identify sales opportunities that assure market performance and penetration in support of business initiatives store date, estimated revenue, quoted amounts

  • Develop, maintain and share with Business Development/Sales and Marketing teams an understanding of technical and business challenges prospects and clients face

  • Broaden and grow contacts within client organizations for cross selling purposes and reduce risk due to key contact departure (attrition)

  • Prepare sales headlines summary for Director of Sales as requested

  • Stays up to date on professional knowledge and retail trends

  • Maintain accuracy within JD Edwards as it relates to assigned fields of responsibility (in Identify opportunities to increase sales of products and services that meet identified challenges or market needs.

  • Support on demand reporting of all client service and sales activities

  • Coordinate completion of business travel and expense reports per Bunzl Policy and Procedure Manual and escalate questions/challenges to Director of Sales


  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role related to sales development and/or client or account management within the retail community or related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Prior Sales/Account Management or Business Development experience with demonstrated progressive profitable sales growth

  • Retail industry experience preferred

  • Solid understanding of Service Models as a Solution

  • High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients

  • Strong leadership and customer service skills with the ability to ensure that a high level of service and quality is maintained

  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and meet deadlines

  • Outstanding attention to detail, flexibility and creativity

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Persistence coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment, and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments

  • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues.

  • Travel 50- 75%.
