Salary Range: Up to $55/hour, dependent on qualifications and experience

Duration: Spring Semester (January 2025 - May 2025)

Brief Description of Duties:

The Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center invites candidates who can enthusiastically inspire and engage students as a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor for the Medical Billing and Coding program. Candidates should have the ability to teach in person, remote and online courses.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center's Medical Billing and Coding program is an intermediate level course in anatomy, medical terminology, CPT/ICD-10 (Current Procedural Terminology/International Classification of Diseases) coding, HCPCS (Health Care Common Procedural Coding System) and insurance processing utilizing industry-standard billing software. The medical billing and coding adjunct instructor will prepare students for employment in positions such as Billing Specialist, Medical Records, Health Information Technician, and Insurance Clerk.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in a Medical Billing and Coding or Medical Records environment

  • Billing/Coding Active membership AAPC and/or AMBA

  • Active billing and coding credentials related to the organizations above such as CMRS, CMCS, CCS, CPC, CPC-1, CPB

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education in a closely related program

  • Knowledge of Medical Billing and Coding procedures and third-party insurance billing procedure

  • 1+ year(s) of experience with online and hybrid teaching and related methodologies

  • Experience teaching in adult education

  • Knowledge of Microsoft software and the ability to work with computers and education-related databases

  • Active membership: AHIMA, HFMA
