Howmet Aerospace EHS TECHNICIAN in Morristown, Tennessee

JOB SUMMARY:

The EHS Technician will perform daily tasks necessary to maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace in accordance with Howmet EHS standards and governmental regulatory requirements. The EHS Technician is critical to expediting risk mitigation service times, especially those related to employee concerns. The Technician will maintain an advanced level of EHS knowledge, skills, and job flexibility necessary to perform a myriad of EHS tasks. With direct accountability to the EHS Manager, the Technician will be capable of focusing entirely on EHS priorities. The technician’s workload is generated from corrective and preventive actions associated with incidents, Fatal and Serious Injury (“FSI”) hazard assessments, capital project EHS (“PEHSR”) reviews, new chemical product introductions, internal EHS program self-assessments, internal EHS Leadership Walks, and external compliance inspections.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The EHS Technician will be responsible for the tactical activities required to support Howmet Morristown’s EHS Management Programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Completing Injury Free Event and EHS incident corrective actions,

• Periodic air flow checks of critical exhaust ventilation systems,

• Periodic x-ray radiation and electromagnetic (EMF) equipment surveys,

• Inventorying hazardous chemicals and verifying Safety Data Sheets are available,

• Monthly reviews of mobile equipment pre-operational inspection checklists,

• Monthly stormwater compliance inspections,

• Spill response equipment quarterly inspections,

• Hazardous and Used Oil weekly waste inspections,

• Completing Project EHS Review (PEHSR) follow up actions,

• Performing carbon monoxide detector monthly calibrations,

• Coordinating project work related to addressing fatal and serious injury (FSI) risks,

• Performing physical plant security inspections,

• Performing actions required to sustain the plant’s various recycling programs,

• Serving as a certified first aid/CPR and small chemical spill response team member,

• Performing machine guarding and robot safety hazard assessments,

• Deploying tactical Winter and Summer Safety actions,

• Performing monthly required elevator operational checks.

• Participating on annual fire department pre-planning sessions.

• Addressing Property Insurance, Internal Self-Assessment, Leadership Walk, and Corporate EHS

audit findings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of High School Graduate or GED

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years’ previous experience working in a manufacturing or maintenance support role.

  • Mobile equipment operator experience.

  • First responder or environmental technician experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Extended periods of time walking, carrying, stooping, reaching, and bending. Climbing on and off forklifts, equipment, ladders, etc.

  • Use of shovels, brooms, hammers, and various other hand-tools.

  • Loading and moving drum dollies.

  • Manually handling empty drums.

  • Bending over to clean up pig mat and spilled materials.

  • Routinely performing formal and informal EHS walk throughs and risk assessments.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer literacy.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude.

  • Good verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be detailed oriented and self-motivated.

  • Capable of operating mobile equipment (i.e., walk-behind fork truck, riding fork truck, etc.).
