This position is 32 hours/week (80% time), 9 months in Dining Services. This position has the responsibility for quality food production, cleanliness and customer service to meet the needs of a diverse population of University of Minnesota Morris students, faculty, staff, visitors, and friends in Dining Services or Turtle Mountain Cafe. Employees in Dining Services are University of Minnesota employees, supervised by Sodexo management staff, UMM's contracted food service management company, and are governed by the Teamsters and University bargaining unit agreement. Job duties Prepare, process and help serve high quality foods at Turtle Mountain Cafe and the Dining Hall: 80% Processes hot and cold foods using some mechanical equipment (i.e., toasters, steam-jacketed kettles, etc.). Takes food and/or supply items to the storage areas and properly stores them following set procedures. May assist cook or senior food service worker in vegetable or fruit preparation. May do front line finish product cooking such as pizza station, grill station, or exhibition cooking. Works collaboratively and effectively with coworkers and other staff from a variety of US and international cultures. Meets campus food preparation and presentation standards when helping with dining service. Provides high quality customer service for students, faculty, staff and visitors from a variety of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Maintain quality and cleanliness standards 20% Follows established food handling procedures. Maintains clean and sanitary conditions in work area (i.e., cleans work surfaces, wipes up spills). Follows established safety procedures. Observes and communicates to supervisors temperature variations not up to required standards. Reports breakdown of equipment to supervisor. Puts away supplies. Communicates shortages in food and/or supplies within adequate time for restocking prior to meal period. Collects food and/or supplies needed prior to actual service. Prepares supply items in advance of actual assembly (i.e., wraps silverware, lines trays, fills dispensers, etc.). Assembles and portions food items for /meal service to meet campus food presentation standards.
