Job Summary

Build, install and repair wooden structures and forms on bridge const ruction project s. Work 40-50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. Work at a specific construction jobsite and then different locations as projects are completed, generally in Kansas, but possibly in other nearby states on occasion.

Essential Functions

  • Attend work as scheduled

  • Get along with others

  • Follow company handbooks and other written and oral instructions

  • Communicate in a way others will understand

  • Use and care for tools, equipment and materials

    Specific Duties

  • Perform carpentry work for pier footings, columns, caps, abutments, decking, intermediate diaphragms, rail and approach

  • Read and understand construction plans and specifications

  • Select specified types of lumber and other materials needed to construct forms

  • Layout the form using rule, framing square and other tools

  • Mark cutting or assembly lines on material using pencil, chalk or marking gauge

  • Cut and shape forms to specifications using saws, chisels or plane

  • Assemble forms with nails or other fasteners

  • Verify accuracy of form with plumb bob, level or transit

  • Work safely and closely with Form Setter and Cement Mason

  • Read and understand Safety Data Sheets and container labels

  • Identify and communicate safety concerns to management in a timely manner

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

    Requirements

    Education

  • High School graduate or G.E.D. preferred

  • Two years experience in bridge carpentry

  • Experience using mechanical and electrical tools

    Physical

  • Normal range of vision and hearing (with correction)

  • Effectively work at heights

  • Walk on uneven ground, stand, climb, bend, kneel, reach, lift and balance

  • Lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis

  • Work safely in adverse weather conditions including wind, rain, snow, ice, mud, heat, etc.
