This is a hybrid role with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Your role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Business & Rights (French Services), you will be responsible for managing business relationships with independent producers and confirming with them the Corporation’s commitments to developing and producing TV and digital projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • As a business partner to the Programming and Schedule teams, and working closely with Finance, plan financial commitments to independent productions, taking into account the Corporation’s CMF Performance Envelope allocation, available funding sources, anticipated market pressures and regulatory obligations.

  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize funding sources available to independent producers in accordance with specific project needs, industry parameters and the Corporation’s financial context.

  • Devise and implement strategies for acquiring the rights needed to roll out content across all Corporation platforms.

  • Lead negotiations for a high volume of projects covering multiple genres, including budgets, funding, and broadcasting and licensing rights.

  • Support the team in resolving complex issues and finding win-win solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with the Corporation’s rules of engagement and the funding standards set by the CMF, tax legislation and other applicable funding sources.

  • Manage the Corporation’s CMF Performance Envelope allocation and develop renewal strategies based on your division’s performance analysis.

  • Support the Media Creativity and Distribution teams in their relationships with independent producers to help maximize revenue in compliance with current funding rules and collective agreements in the industry.

  • Conduct strategic and competitive intelligence on available funding sources, existing business practices, and industry positions and trends. Perform analysis and recommend business positions to leadership.

  • Represent B&R in dealings with funding agencies to resolve complex issues related to the processing of files or the interpretation and application of guidelines.

  • Recommend actions to optimize operational processes and harmonize business practices.

  • Manage staff reporting to you.

What you bring

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field (finance, law, business administration, film, television).

  • Extensive experience in independent production financing (seven or more years).

  • Deep knowledge of the audiovisual industry and its players (producers, broadcasters, unions).

  • Extensive knowledge of the funding rules of the main funding bodies and tax credit programs.

  • Extensive knowledge of the budget parameters in the various programming genres, in development and in production.

  • Strong negotiation skills and diplomacy.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally.

  • Strong ability to find solutions.

  • Ability to manage a high volume of projects and work well under pressure.

  • Relevant team management experience an asset.

  • Functional knowledge of English, an asset.
