Job Summary

The Manager, Transportation Training and Development – Field is responsible for leading, coaching and mentoring a team of Transportation Training and Development Field Officers and acts as a support to the Campus Transportation Training teams. The incumbent monitors the day-to-day field training delivery and training progress, oversees implementation and ongoing compliance training, carries out scheduling and coordinates classes with local management. In addition to overseeing employees, the Manager, Transportation Training and Development – Field is accountable for ensuring that programming is updated and accurate, as well as taking ownership of any issues that arise.

Main Responsibilities

Management of Staff and Incoming Trainees

· Develop schedules and coordinate class dates with Field Operations and Campus teams

· Gather pertinent information from internal and external sources, including provincial regulatory bodies (e.g. Transport Canada)

· Ensures Officers, Transportation Training and Development – Field schedule classes at adequate capacity and are available to support the delivery of all field training programs and initiatives

· Handle all issues that arise during field training

· Oversee the progress of the Officers, Transportation Training and Development – Field in each area, including development of training and personal development plans

· Monitor, evaluate and document performance to ensure the quality and accuracy of the course

· Provide training support to external customers of CN

· Prepare and present compliance reports and updates to Senior Managers

· Monitor and qualify contract instructors and temporary instructors as required

· Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition on conductor recruitment initiatives t

Maintain Communication with Field Managers

· Assess needs coming from the field operations and field training teams

· Communicate with students regarding any issues and relaying information to Field Operations and Training teams

· Act as the principal liaison between the Campus and Field Operations

Program and Curriculum Management

· Evaluate Field training programs independently or assign Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to evaluate the campus programs, as necessary

· Modify programs based on feedback from the Transportation function, as needed

· Validate the delivery of correct materials, including evaluating instructors and communicating with students directly

· Oversee the certification of transportation employees across regions in Canada

Project Management

· Work with vendors and internal SMEs to develop new curriculum and modify programs, as needed

· Assist vendors, as needed, including providing them the required information in order to produce the desired results

· Produce and present business cases for new programs, upon request

Working Conditions

The role has irregular hours (including nights, weekends, holidays). The incumbent will work in a combination of an office environment and the outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions. The role requires travel for company business without advance notice which may include responding to unexpected emergency or urgent situations. The role requires regular travel (up to 50%) within Canada to deliver trainings.

Experience

Project Management

· Between 1 to 3 years of project management experience

o Experience with behaviour-based safety training

o Experience in people management*

o Experience in Operations within CN Transportation department*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

· High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)

· Valid Driver’s License

· Conductor Certified

· Locomotive Engineer and/or Remote Control Operator Certified*
