Facebook is seeking an Operations Director to support teams delivering and maintaining mission critical IT hardware and tooling in our data centers. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly growing infrastructure efficiently operates and our innovative services are delivered. This role will deliver foundational capabilities to our data center operations teams; drive excellence and consistency in the core Capacity & Production Operations delivery to meet the needs of our global community; and champion initiatives that enhance the quality, efficiency, effectiveness and scalability of our operations. The successful candidate will partner closely with field and engineering teams to deliver proactive, data-driven industry leading operational excellence at hyperscale. The Director, Data Center Operations will drive innovative initiatives; scale teams and operations; develop talent; and deliver the right tools, processes, insights and standards to enable Facebook’s growth.
Build and guide an operations team, delivering operational insights, practices, and tools to proactively manage a hyperscale fleet of servers distributed across the globe
Act as key Subject Matter Expert on operational practices, at scale
Formulate the right metrics and definitions of success to drive quality, effectiveness, efficiency, scalability, cost, and timeliness
Develop and advocate for key operational initiatives based on quantified global impact
Align the global team behind these metrics and key initiatives, and be a critical driver assuring rapid, coordinated, and effective responses to issues as they arise
Drive the right data analytics and statistical analysis to identify operational inefficiencies, opportunities, exceptions, and fault/event correlations
Anticipate potential operational risks and develop strategies to minimize or mitigate
Provide data driven narratives, determine priority focus areas, develop specific intentional action plans, validate cause/effect, share best practices and lessons learned
Develop roadmaps for operations teams including tooling, workflows, technology, skills, etc.
Assure field teams are equipped with the right skill sets, dashboards, and tools to reliably and proactively respond to challenges and remedy issues before they impact the fleet
Create a deep understanding of a complex technical environment through data and reporting
Build cross functional relationships and have the ability to influence policies and procedures to improve global data center operations
Become an expert in Facebook's site operations infrastructure, tools, systems, workflows, and data
Partner with other organizations to develop performance measures and dashboards aimed at driving continuous improvement of operations and fleet health
Ability to travel 30-40%
B.S. in Engineering
10+ years of operations experience in a mature engineering environment
Skills to take operational data, tease out useful information, develop an intentional action plan with specific KPIs and improvement goals, and drive global impact
Advanced knowledge of lean operational processes and methodologies
Experience influencing effectively, working on cross-functional teams to advance the needs of the company, adapting the team to meet these needs
Experience working in a fast paced, hands-on environment
M.S. in Engineering Management
Six sigma certification
