Summary About the Position: Serves as the Director of the Aiso Library. The Aiso Library is a specialized academic library which contains items in over 45 languages. The collection contains specialized subject concentration in language teaching and learning, linguistics, areas studies, social science, cultural history, and literature. Responsibilities Manages the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center academic library. Establishes overall library operating policies regarding circulation, collection access, hours of operation, collection development and maintenance. Plans and assigns work to be accomplished, interprets policy, procedures, and establishes priorities. Publicizes available library services and products. Evaluates vendor services in terms of cost-effective services. Makes long-range plans for new or enhanced services. Makes decisions regarding initiation or continuation of library services. Identifies developmental and training needs and makes provision for providing identified needs. Promotes sound position management principles and programs. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED. OR A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing research and reference services to library patrons; 2) providing technical advice to library staff and users; 3) assisting in the development of library policies and procedures; 3) Identifying and/or analyzing potential technology solutions to improve library services; 4) selecting, procuring, or cataloging of library materials in various formats. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service Manages Human Resources Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent GS-11. To be referred, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and qualification requirements within 30 days from the date the referral list is issued.
