Job Summary

The role of marketing operations and measurement technician is to ensure integrity and reliability of all aspects of marketing operations, oil and gas measurement, and facilities according to the API, AGA, GPA, ASTM, federal and state guidelines, and Continental policies. This person will take direction from Marketing Tech Support Group to service Production and Marketing needs in regard to oil transportation, scheduling, crude quality, and facility operation. This person will be able to respond to the following scenarios, as well as others that might occur.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with company HSE policies and demonstrate the ability to respond quickly and confidently to safety and environmental events.

  • Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, operation, maintenance, inspection, testing, calibration of measurement systems.

  • Training and coaching of all personnel involved in the transfer of title of crude oil and gas at the field level.

  • Work with Measurement Analysts. to commission new meters, schedule calibrations, implement oil and gas quality data, troubleshoot measurement errors as needed.

  • Work with scheduling and operations during unscheduled system outages to reduce production downtime and upsets.

  • Implement pipeline and trucking schedules at Continental facilities.

  • Operate and maintain Continental facilities and terminals.

  • Utilize basic computer skills to use e-mail, meter test and data collection software and hardware, and complete /file electronic reports.

  • Perform monthly Pipelines/Terminal gain/loss analysis, investigate instances of mismeasurement, computing adjustments and negotiate with other companies when necessary to settle difference in adjusted volumes.

  • Work with operations and accounting to maintain loss control as it pertains to measurement accuracy of crude oil and gas.

  • Inspect, witness, and correct third party measurement systems as directed.

  • Works with management and facilities engineering to define and prioritize measurement improvement projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Familiar with API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, AGA Standards, industry measurement standards, and typical contract agreement language

  • Familiarity with State and BLM rules and regulations regarding oil and gas measurement

  • Familiarity with field instrumentation, meters, transmitters, flow computers, etc.

  • Familiarity with Test-it and Flowcal measurement systems.

  • Understands the methods of measurements used for custody transfer.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a timely manner.

  • Analytical self-starter, quick and eager learner, with strong attention to details.

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Proven team player.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Technical certification/training

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of oilfield operational or measurement experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stoop, stand, walk pull, carry instruments, and climb stairs and ladders for an extended period of time.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to work overhead for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform fine manipulations with hands and fingers.

  • Capable of driving distances of 150 miles or more per day during all types of weather conditions.

  • Ability to one arm carry up to 25lbs without assistance.

  • Regular bending, crouching, pulling and kneeling to check equipment and gauges.

  • Must be able to exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally and up to 20lbs frequently to move or manipulate objects.

  • Ability to work significant amounts of time as required in completing job responsibilities.

  • Working environment includes exposure to extremely loud noises in the field, hazardous chemicals, and hydrocarbons that may be under extreme pressure for which appropriate safety measures are required.
