General Information & Responsibilities
The Workforce Equity Initiative Grant Support Specialist is a full-time position grant funded through the Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI) grant from July 2024 through August 2025. The Workforce Equity Initiative Grant Support Specialist will manage the WEI efforts at Black Hawk College (BHC) through recruitment as well as providing student support and mentoring to aid in retention, persistence, and completion of Computer Networking, Medical Assisting, CNC Production, and Welding certificates and degrees.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
a.Articulates program vision and goals to students, staff, community stakeholders, and cooperating school districts and advises potential students concerning WEI Grant funded programs and learning objectives.
b.Manages the student WEI Grant application process.
c.Collects information on barriers to enrollment and completion of WEI identified certificates and degrees.
d.Participates in creating support services that lead to enrollment, retention, and completion of WEI Grant-funded students.
e.Works with the external WEI Grant Program Director, along with Director of Recruitment and Student Engagement, and Advising Department staff, to coordinate, and promote WEI identified certificates and programs through community events, visiting local high schools, visiting with local WEI providers, and other career-related events.
f.Identifies and documents eligible nontraditional and traditional occupational students for the WEI grant and coordinates services for these students.
g.Responsible for monitoring the equitable participation and full participation of populations identified in the WEI grant.
h.Collects prepares and maintains data to create reports and all program documents as required. Share project progress and activity with the CTE Grants/Projects Manager.
i.Receives all Early Alert notifications for WEI Grant students and assists identified students in overcoming barriers to persistence and completion.
j.Develop partnerships with businesses and the community to provide students with work-based experiences.
k.Works collaboratively with college departments to track, gather, and submit required data and reports regarding WEI Grant applicants and students, student retention, progress toward completion, and graduation.
l.Connects students to college and community resources to aid in their successful certificate/degree completion.
m.Provides administrative and program support for the WEI Grant.
n.Participates in professional development and learning activities to build and maintain knowledge of higher education, and WEI Grant opportunities.
o.Coordinates with the Public Relations and Marketing and Recruitment and Student Engagement Departments to promote WEI programs/classes and special events.
p.Assists with monitoring and reporting WEI Grant activities.
q.Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER JOB DUTIES:
a.Collaborates with the Recruitment Department to represent WEI and the College in community-related meetings/events and on various committees.
b.Collaborates with the Recruitment Department to develop and maintain partnerships with agencies, WEI providers, and high schools regarding the WEI program at BHC
c.Collaborates and works closely with Advising.
d.Collaborates with Career Services staff to provide students with career exploration and transition experiences.
e.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

a.Reports directly to the Dean for Economic and Workforce Development
b.Works with Director of Recruitment and Student Engagement and CTE Grants/Project Manager
c.Works with the Public Relations and Marketing and Advising Departments
d.Works directly with students and stakeholders.
e.Works directly with agency and school district personnel.
Education & Experience
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
a.Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.
b.Minimum of two years of work experience in counseling/social work, family support, or higher education preferred.
c.Experience with common computer applications including database programs, spreadsheet programs, Microsoft products including Outlook, and basic Word processing required.
d.Ability to work with minimal supervision and within a team-oriented environment.
e.Excellent communication/customer relationship skills and comfortable presenting to groups of people in person and/or via remote meeting software required.
f.Current valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
