Amentum Science & Engineering Services Manager in Moffett Field, California

The Science & Engineering Services Manager responsible for performance of science and engineering tasks. Represents Amentum in relevant work with appropriate customer counterparts, with authority to make and follow through on commitments.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the department staff including ensuring staff is adequately trained; coordinate workloads, priorities, and schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of work; and monitors and evaluates staff performance.

  • Plans, organizes, and administers science and engineering activities to meet customer and contract requirements.

  • Develops, implements, and enforces policies, plans, and procedures related to science and engineering in accordance with best industry practices.

  • Directs support for science teams, including research and technical support for various activities, field experiments, laboratory investigations and databases; dissemination of research and education content; and website maintenance and preparation of reports.

  • Oversees research support, including direct research functions and indirect support such as technical and programmatic reviews.

  • Develops collaborative environments enabling remote scientific collaboration using up-to- date data visualization and modeling, social networking, and other tools

  • Oversees recruitment of world-class scientific collaborators and experts in a wide range of disciplines to support the changing needs of rapidly evolving fields.

  • Supports peer review process, including preparing science and technical summary packages that may include information on background, scientific rationale and relevance, proposer qualifications, flight/technical experience, results, and references.

  • Provides science and technical support for laboratory, field, and flight research.

  • Supports compliance with ethical standards for research, including bioethics for human and animal research subjects, planetary sustainability, and synthetic biology.

  • Leads Amentum support of overall planning, formulation, and implementation of technology projects, tasks, and other efforts.

  • Supports requirements analysis, technology assessments, and trade studies, and their

  • integration into technology planning, investment strategies, and development projects.

  • Supports laboratory and prototype hardware development and demonstration from concept through operations; development of system design and architecture; and system and hardware assembly and test.

  • Supports development of innovative technologies, including advanced manufacturing, life support systems, space biotechnology, operating systems, payloads, sensors, micro- and small-satellites, and architectures.

  • Identifies and provides subject matter experts, as needed, to assist with design of experiments, conduct of research, review of proposals, support for facilities design review and construction/inspection management, and any other activity requiring expert assistance.

  • Compiles and distributes reports in accordance with CDRL requirements.

  • Establishes and maintains liaison with other Amentum managers, the customer, subcontractor management, and other contractors on site as required.

  • Supports ES&H culture whereby all employees continuously develop and maintain a work environment that protects personnel, property, and the environment.

  • Ensures subordinates conform with Amentum’s Quality Policy and perform duties in compliance with applicable Amentum and contract quality requirements.

  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • US citizenship is required for unescorted access to assigned work area(s).

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or relevant scientific/technical field.

  • 10+ years of applicable professional experience with increasing responsibility.

  • Prior supervisory experience.
