Kind of Work
: This is public relations work in promoting and conducting group tours of sites of interest for visitors to the City of Mobile.
Examples of Work
: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Guides group tours of Fort Conde, City Hall or other points of interest; lectures tour groups and provides historical and factual information regarding sites; visits schools to provide lectures and presentations; assures safety measures are followed by tour group; may provide muzzle loading small arms and cannon firing demonstrations; maintains and cleans weapons, exhibits, equipment and fixtures of Fort Conde; distributes brochures; answers questions from tour groups; maintains security and activates alarm systems at closing time; performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
: Graduation from a standard senior high school, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, including or supplemented by first aid training, and preferably one year experience in public relations or closely related area; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Essential Requirements of the Work
: Good knowledge of the City of Mobile and its government, history, attractions and scenic and historical sites; good knowledge of first aid techniques or the ability to readily acquire such knowledge; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to demonstrate 18th Century weaponry; ability to lecture groups and to deal tactfully and cordially with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Distinguishing Features of the Work
: Employees in this class, commonly referred to as \"Soldiers\", are responsible for conducting group tours through Fort Conde, City Hall or other points of interest. Tour Guides wear military uniforms representative of 18th Century France during regular working hours and for night time events and some weekends and holidays. The work is performed in accordance with well defined guidelines and procedures under general supervision of a designated superior.
