U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lead Architect in Mobile, Alabama

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: As the senior architect, the incumbent works with all the architects within the design branch to ensure the most effective, efficient and economical achievement of architecting design tasks, to produce work products and services and meet program and production goals. Responsibilities Assists architects through knowledge and application of skills directly relating to the architectural discipline. Serves as the chief architect on the more difficult and complex design projects and as a formal team leader on assigned projects. Performs design of architectural systems, and coordinating design work with other disciplines. Reviews the designs and plans prepared in the Section and those prepared by A-E's or by other Districts and recommends action to be taken by the Section Chief. Coordinates the work of assigned project with other Sections in the Branch or other branches to ensure the work is processed in the most efficient and expeditious manner. Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required. Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members. Leads the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made. Monitor and report on the status and progress of work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Lead Architect: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the 9/12/2024 11:28 EDT Page 2 of 5architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Developing plans and specifications for construction contract documents for Military construction projects; (2) Overseeing work of large and/or complex designs, investigations, studies, and/or evaluations; (3) Formulating and implementing Architectural technical quality programs such as standards, standard operating procedures, lessons learned, and independent technical reviews; (4) Providing technical advice and/or support to customers and other offices, including higher authority, on architectural design and construction; and (5) Promoting professional Architectural capabilities to potential customers such as the Army, Air Force, and other Federal agencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience statement in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using specialized experience alone--no substitution of education for specialized experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. This position requires registration or licensure in Professional Architecture. Registration may be in any state, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia. (NOTE: You must provide/upload your Professional License/Registration as proof of claimed registration/license. Failure to upload the required documentation will result in being found ineligible for the position.) Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
